ABOUT THE PRACTICE
The Haven Surgery was purpose built. The principal doctor is Dr Rina Miah, having taken over from Dr Anderson in April 2007. There is now another male doctor in the practice who does several surgeries per week. The surgery has its own dispensary and is able to dispense medication to patients registered with the practice who live in Burnhope and some of the surrounding areas.
The practice has a list size of 1593 and is a single handed practice with one salaried GP. Special Interests include Gynaecology and Minor Surgery, including joint injections. With the help of improvement grant funding, the Principal GP Dr Rina Miah has introduced additional services by bringing into use previously unused rooms and improved disabled access.
The Practice strives to be on a leading edge of modern primary care, making full uses of the latest technology and the constant organisational changes that have characterised the NHS over the last 15 years. It has also tried to keep, as much as possible, its traditional approach to general practice. We seek to maintain continuity of care, with on-going relationships and, as far as possible, easy accessibility between patients and clinical staff.
Unacceptable Behaviour
Please be courteous to the surgery staff as they act on the instructions of the Practice Policies. The practice follows the NHS Policy of Zero Tolerance against Verbal or Physical Abuse.
Complaints
If you have found something happening in the Practice with which you strongly disagree or find distressing, we would like to think that you would bring this to our attention.

Please ask to see the Practice manager Miss Kim Nixon, who will take details of your complaint. This will be treated in the strictest confidence. We would expect to have the problem investigated within two weeks. Within this time the practice manager would get in touch with you to report on the findings and how the problem has been resolved.
When we look into your complaint, we shall aim to:
- Find out what happened and what went wrong
- Make it possible for you to discuss the problem with those concerned, if you would like this
- Make sure you receive an apology, where this is appropriate
- Identify what we can do to make sure the problem doesn't happen again
If you are not satisfied with the outcome of the Practice Investigation into your complaint, or you wish to make a formal complaint, you can contact County Durham & Darlington Health Authority, or the Independent Complaints Advocacy Services (ICAS) Tel : 08451203723. Contact Information and details of the complaints procedure is available from the Practice Manager
